New and updated

September 24, 2006

Shaklee is introducing biodegradable dryer sheets and multi-purpose wipes (called Basic H2 wipes). Yeah! They also have updated the look (which was from 50 years ago) on their cleaning products. Basic H has been improved so that’s why it’s called Basic H2.

Check out the new stuff

Remember: why shaklee? Because it’s healthy for you and the environment!

Sexual Wholeness

September 9, 2006

We were cleaning out our tv stand and I found the bulletin that went with a video tape I got of the Sexual Wholeness Series at Asbury Theological Seminary put on by The National Coaliton for the Protection of Children & Families while we were in Wilmore. I thought I would share some of the information from it.

Sexual purity is the number one issue that Christian men face in their walk with Christ.

Many community leaders and pastors are struggling with pornography use and sexual immorality.

On a survey 20% of pastors said they look at sex-oriented materials at least once a month.

Some pastors find it difficult to preach and teach on this issue because they are personally involved and struggling with pornography or are fearful because many of their people are struggling with sexual sin. They are not sure how to bring both God’s grace and accountability at the same time.

The Corrie ten Boom and Martin Luther quotes in the post below were printed in this bulletin.

The internet has increased availability, acceptability, anonymity and addiction of pornography.

In 1970 and 1986 the Presidential commissions on pornography agreed that 12-17 year old males were among the largest users of the material.

40.2% of site visitors are female.

Focus group research indicates the average age of exposure is 11 for males and 12.5 for females.

Realize that children can get around blocking software.

Everything that has ever been available in adult bookstores is now available for free, as teasers, without any minimum age. This includes: homosexual acts, bestiality, group sex, sado-masochism, bondage, and child pornography. There is very sophisticated technology that can keep you from escaping pornographic sites (called mouse-trapping) as well as traps to get you there.

“. . if any real difference is going to be made in the hearts, minds and behavior of our youth and church members . . . we will have to approach this with great ENERGY, ENDURANCE AND DETERMINATION. . . . Our society is so saturated with the message of immorality . . . . that our competing message will have to be substantial, persistent, persuasive and compelling.” Dr. Stan Weed

What makes someone vulnerable? They learned it, they are isolated, they have hurts from the past, they have access to the internet.

To help: share hope, hold person accountable, help them understand that they are responsible for their behaviors and choices, don’t preach at them, do invite them to change, don’t stop checking on them, encourage counseling and support groups, don’t keep silent on the issue.

Check out the links at the right as well as this one for more information.

Quotes

September 9, 2006

I found these quotes and think they’re insightful therefore wanted to pass them on.

————–

“If I straighten the pictures on the walls of your home, I am committing no sin, am I?  But suppose that your house were afire, and I still went calmly about straightening pictures, what would you say?  Would you think me merely stupid or very wicked? . . . The world today is on fire.  What are you doing to extinguish the fire?”  Corrie ten Boom in Amazing Love, 101

“If you preach the gospel in all aspects with the exception of the issues which deal specifically with your time–you are not preaching the gospel at all.”  Martin Luther

Soaked Nuts

September 3, 2006

Here’s another one.  I do suggest getting a dehydrator since ovens now adays don’t go low enough on temperature.  You can get one for about $30 at, yes, Amazon. I’m hoping to get one soon for nuts, and making kale chips and tomato chips.

Coconut oil

Here’s one of Annie’s posts I was talking about.

I love Amazon

September 3, 2006

.com that is. Never been to the real thing and am too scared of snakes and crocodiles to ever go.

You, yes you, need an amazon.com wish list and here’s why. 1) It helps you remember what you wanted when you didn’t have money for when you do. 2) It helps your family or friends who want to get you a gift to know what to get you. 3) Sometimes people enjoy shopping at a mall, etc. but sometimes it’s a hassle and how nice to shop online! 4) Personally, I think it cuts down on unnecessary gifts. Sometimes people feel like they have to get you a gift but they don’t know what you want so they get you something that you throw away or sell at a garage sale or that clutters your house for you overly sentimental types. So make it easy. If the list is long enough it’s still a surprise. 5) You can find anything you want on Amazon. Okay, not everything in the whole world. But a lot of people still think it’s books, movies and music. Target sells through Amazon, Office Depot too. 6) You can buy used books. A lot of times you can’t even tell they’re used (it will say what condition it’s in; I go for “like new”).

So have I sold you on it yet? :)

First steps follow-up

September 3, 2006

If you don’t know what candida is it’s yeast infection, trush, diaper rash, etc.

Also, Dawn said we need a healthy bowel system but didn’t say how. Pre & pro-biotics that’s how. This is extremely important to health. Dr. Mercola has a brand he recommends. I recommend Shaklee’s Optiflora because theirs is incapsulated three times so as it passes through your esophagus and stomach and breaks down, 500 million live microflora will still arrive at your intestines. They’ve tested popular acidophilus products on the market and often the bacteria is dead and/or is a low count by the time you buy it. Probiotics also help with yeast infections, ear infections and help build immune system.

Shaklee also has an Omega 3 pill or you can grind flaxseed in a coffee grinder and add to cereal, protein drink, etc. (I say grind because buying it already ground unrefrigerated means it’s rancid–brilliant manufacturers even at the health food store.) Omega 3 helps arthritis, migraines, depression, ADD and is a cancer preventative. (You can also eat fish for omega3.)

First steps

September 3, 2006

Clearly I am a binge writer. I have a list of posts I want to write but I have to be inspired or something.

I was reading through some of Annie’s archives and found a lot worth reading. One is actually a link to her friend Dawn’s site. Here’s the link but I also copied it below since some of you might not read it otherwise.

—————-

I’ve assaulted you with my definition of being healthy (honoring the body the Lord has blessed me with, for the pleasure of God the Father, to the glory of Jesus the Son, with the help of the Holy Spirit, for the purpose of advancing the Kingdom) so, NOW WHAT??!!

Now I tell you, it IS attainable and it can be done without turning your entire life upside down in order to do it. If it couldn’t, I wouldn’t be doing it. )

First, however, I MUST address the tendency of the women I know (myself included…especially?!) to strive toward, not excellence , but SUPREME excellence. We embrace what I call the “Law of 2-0″. (”Too much, too fast, too often, too high an expectation that lasts for 2 weeks with zero results.” You’ll hear me talk about this alot – because I’m so good at it.) ? However, we are seeking a fresh dependence on the Lord, not an excelling in our own flesh. THAT doesn’t qualify as healthy.

Having said that, from one Sister to another, I’d like to offer 10 suggestions that would greatly add to your ability to be healthy and serve in the Kingdom. I encourage you to top them all off with a great big dose of prayer – remember it’s “with the help of the Holy Spirit” that we’re to be doing this! (I’m just the mouth piece.) )

Part 1 -

1) Drink. Drink water. Drink good water. Drink a lot of good water. If you don’t have a filter system, pray and ask the Lord to bless your body with the water you DO have and then drink it.

2) Move. If you are not already moving in some way, anything you do is going to be good. Walking is especially good for our bodies. If walking is boring to you, dance. If you’re a klutz (like me) and you fear for your life – or someone else’s – at the thought of dancing, let alone the humiliation factor, ? then just MOVE. Doesn’t matter what. Doesn’t matter for how long, at this point. Just move! THIS especially requires the application of the “Law of 2-0″.

3) Eat virgin coconut oil. There are so many health attributes of this wonderful stuff. (Not the least of which is its ability to kill off candida) It is expen$ive. If you can’t afford this, then take it to Father in prayer and see if it’s something He desires to add to your diet. He has made your body, He knows what you need and He will provide it if you do. Do NOT drain your finances or strain your relationship with your husband over this. Start with 1 -2 tsp a few times a day.

4) Never eat or drink another diet anything ever again. Never ever. Never ever ever. Diet products are made with chemicals that keep us fat, stress our liver and kidneys and keep our thyroid dorked up. (I won’t even get into the mineral leaching that they do.) Never. Ever. Ok? (bold added by Heather)
5) Take your temp. First thing every morning, take your temperature. If your temperature is less than 97.7 (and for most of us, it will be.) then your thyroid is not operating at full potential. So what, you ask? SO, low thyroid means low metabolism. Low thyroid means impaired immune function. Low thyroid means poor circulation. (in other words, you’re cold a lot) Low thyroid means hormone imbalance. (Could mean multiple miscarriages, or numerous other things) Low thyroid can cause hypoglycemia. Low thyroid will leave you weak and without energy. That’s a lot of “so”, huh?
SO, if your temp is less than 97.7 then I would encourage you to take some kelp. (Btw, chlorine is known to shut down thyroid function – hence the value of good water.) I personally have found that World Organics Liqui-Kelp is a reasonably priced source, that seems to work pretty well.

Once you have gotten these five steps under your belt, I suspect that you will feel good enough that you’ll be ready to tackle the next five. Take your time with these first 5. Get to know your body again. Especially if you’ve not been moving in a while, it will take a bit to get some body awareness back. As you become stronger, your movements will become stronger and you will feel more confident in the way you can move. AND movement begets energy, which begets movement…it just keeps going and going. )

Briefly, the goal of the next five is to work toward getting our bodies alkaline. (Again – the Law of “2-0″ – too alkaline and we have another set of problems. Seek BALANCE!) SO…. Part 2:

6) Let’s make BMI really mean “bowel movement indicator,” rather than “body mass index”! Bowel/digestive health is crucial to how you feel and think.

7) Eat the rainbow! Treat yourself to the vast array of color that the Lord has provided us in food.

8) Eliminate refined sugars. GROAN. This one is hard, but I’m not talking death sentence here. )

9) Take an Omega 3 supplement. (generally flax or fish oils)

10) Be joyous and filled with thanksgiving, delighting in the many good things that our Father in heaven has provided.

One of the wonderful things about these steps is that they can be reasonably effective, reasonably quickly. As that happens, not only will you feel better, have more energy and think more clearly, you will be better equipped to serve our Lord! For His pleasure, to the glory of Jesus the Son, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
