I am not in favor of suing necessarily but I do pray that the court would find in favor of the family.
The Sun is not the danger, it’s the lack of that gives you cancer
July 18, 2007UPDATE: Additional link: here
I have a hypothesis that as long as you don’t actually get sunburned, you can’t get skin cancer. Well, it’s actually far more complex. You need to eat right, exercise, etc. and I think you can probably still get ugly sun spots, etc. but I try to get out every day to get fresh air, vitamin D, etc and Elisa & I never wear sunscreen unless it’ll be longer than an hour or it’s next to water or it’s a new place we’re not used to (Florida sun is different than up north so if you’re not used to it . . . ).
It’s amazing. Our skin gets darker and darker but neither of us has been burned yet. It’s all about gradual adjustment. We started getting out when the weather was decent (you rarely get sunburned in April) and by the time we could have gotten sunburned our skin had adjusted.
In any case, don’t avoid the sun and don’t always cover up with sunscreens.
PS Babies under 6 months are still susceptible so the above does not apply.
Wal-Mart brings down American empire
July 18, 2007Not that I’m pro empires. . . .
I still have not weaned myself completely of Wal-Mart. I go probably once a month for things I can’t buy elsewhere locally. And I’ve been thinking about that. So many little towns whose closest retailer is Wal-Mart. . . . I don’t think it matters even if we get the word out because people have little alternatives for appliances, electronics, cosmetics, etc. There’s no excuse for buying clothing and food at Wal-Mart, though (if I do it’s because I’m there for one of the other items) except maybe baby clothes because where else?
Dear Lord, please make it stop!
July 18, 2007What commercials will look stupid years from now?
July 18, 2007Ha, ha. I don’t suppose it’s really funny but for some reason this old commercial struck me that way.
Sicko
July 12, 2007Here’s Dr. Mercola’s comment on an article that you can find here. Bold print mine.
Michael Moore’s Sicko is a powerful expose of what is wrong with our health care system This is simply a must see for everyone, even if you think you are fully insured. While I don’t agree with his solution, I have never seen a better portrayal of what is wrong with the US health care system.
The movie chronicles Moore’s interpretations of the problems with the conventional health care industry. And no matter what Moore’s critics may argue, there can be no debate that the current medical system, run by multi national corporations with an eye on their profits rather than on your health, is fatally flawed.
What I would caution you though is to ignore Moore’s solutions. He would have the US government pay for all the care for the uninsured. While the movie makes some compelling arguments and it might make sense for acute traumas, the bulk of the disease in this country are chronic degenerative diseases.
No milk and no strawberries in strawberry milkshakes
July 12, 2007No milk and no strawberries in strawberry milkshakes. Mmm . . . and no avocados in guacamole dip and no meat in meat products and no fruit or vegetables in fruit and vegetable products . . . it turns out that we’ve been eating chemicals for years because they could change the ingredients without telling us or our checking to see. Well, someone always knows and thanks to the internet soon everyone will know and we can take back our world! (In theory)
Old fashioned Washtubs
July 11, 2007I couldn’t find a tin washtub online so I got a cheap plastic one for my daughter to use in the backyard and then I felt so guilty since it’s not environmentally friendly (nor is it friendly to the poor Asians who probably made it). Anyone know where to get said washtubs? Next time I may just let her go without said entertainment . . .
Teaching babies to swim
July 11, 2007The YMCA used to teach babies to swim. Now the Red Cross classes just get kids used to the water until age 5 or something. Why? Considering it could save their lives, why can’t we teach babies to swim since they are in fact, capable of learning? Liability?
If you can help politically or legally
